Has nothing to do with Obama. Everyone likes to feel like they're part of an inside joke. Despite being one of the most popular sites on the internet, Redditors generally enjoy sharing these little "inside jokes" in the form of misunderstood memes. It's not very funny and not particularly creative. It's disappointing because I know that somewhere in karma hell exists original content that isn't getting any attention because people want to see the same crappy jokes on their front page over and over again.

Why these people can't keep this crap in /r/f7u12 or a similar garbage bin is beyond me.
