‘Plastic soup’: Invisible pollutants from everyday objects contaminating oceans, study says

A trip to the seaside can provide beautiful vistas and a relaxing escape, but the seemingly pristine waters of the world’s oceans are hiding invisible pollution from everyday products including clothing and tires, according to a new study.

The research, released by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) on Tuesday, examined the effect of primary microplastics on the world's oceans.

Primary microplastics are plastics that enter bodies of water in the form of small particles, as opposed to larger plastic waste which is easily visible to the naked eye.

Sources of the invisible pollution include car tires, synthetic textiles, marine coatings, road markings, personal care products, plastic pellets and city dust, according to the study.

Although such pollution isn't easily seen, the report states that between 15 and 31 percent of the estimated 9.5 million tons of plastic released into the oceans each year could be primary microplastics, making them a large contributor to the ‘plastic soup’ clogging oceans.

Almost two-thirds come from the washing of synthetic textiles and the abrasion of car tires while driving, according to the study.

The report noted that in developed countries which practice effective waste management, primary microplastics are a larger source of marine plastic pollution than plastic waste.

Tires were found to be the number one culprit of the pollution in the Americas, Europe and Central Asia, while synthetic textiles were the main source in Asia.

The situation is particularly worrisome in the Arctic, the biggest source of seafood for Europe and North America.

“It seems the microplastic is freezing into the sea ice, and since you actually lower the melting point of ice when you have small particles in it, you have a quicker disappearance of sea ice,” Karl Gustaf Lundin, who heads IUCN's Global Marine and Polar Program, told AFP.

He pointed out that when the ice melts, it releases plankton that attracts fish, allowing the plastic particles to “go straight into our food chain.”

Lundin said that although few studies have been done on the impact of tiny plastic particles on human health, “we have to assume that there probably will be considerable impact” because they are small enough to move through human membranes.

IUCN director General Inger Andersen called the report a “real eye-opener, showing that plastic waste is not all there is to ocean plastics.”

She went on to note that daily activities “significantly contribute to the pollution choking our oceans,” stating that they have “potentially disastrous effects on the rich diversity of life within them, and on human health.”

Anderson said the report shows that humans must look beyond waste management in order to fully address ocean pollution, and called on private sector leadership to undertake the necessary research and development.

Marine project manager for IUCN's Global Marine Program Joao de Sousa said the findings have “important implications for the global strategy to tackle ocean plastic pollution, which currently focuses on reducing plastic waste.”

He went on to state that solutions must include product and infrastructure design, along with consumer behavior.

“Synthetic clothes could be designed to shed fewer fibers, for example, and consumers can act by choosing natural fabrics over synthetic ones,” de Sousa said.

Lundin also stated that tire makers could revert to using mainly rubber, while textile manufacturers could stop using plastic coatings on clothes. He also suggested that washing machine makers could install filters to catch micro and nano plastic particles.

Activists hang ‘Refugees Welcome’ banner on Statue of Liberty

US Park Police are looking for suspects in connection to a “Refugees Welcome” banner being tied to the base of the Statue of Liberty. The message went viral after it was uploaded by Alt Statue of Liberty social media accounts.

“Refugees Welcome” was trending on Twitter on Tuesday after a red banner bearing the words was hung from the Statue of Liberty’s observation deck, spread across the pedestal.

The sign measured 20 feet by 3 feet, according to WABC

The National Park Service reportedly removed the banner after assessing that doing so would not harm the national monument. US Park Police have yet to identify suspects.

"There were four people involved in hanging it," a message from the Alt Lady Liberty Twitter account to Curbed New York read. "We have no group, but are just private citizens who feel that the principles that make America great are under attack. We wanted to send a reminder about the America we believe in."

The statue, a gift from France in 1886, came to symbolize open immigration for many after 1903, when a sonnet by Emma Lazarus was engraved at the pedestal.

The poem’s second half, containing its most famous lines, goes as follows:

"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Oil prices will surge to $70 per barrel by year-end - Citi

US investment bank Citi has posted a bullish prediction about oil prices. As supply and demand levels continue to rebalance, crude is likely to reach $70 per barrel by the end of 2017, the bank said in a note.

However, the increase will come gradually, and a surge is to be expected a few months later, said Citi.

"Oil prices are not likely to stray far from their current $53-58 per barrel range in the near term as record investor net length and bearish inventory data will likely cap prices until more tangible evidence of a tighter market emerges," Citi’s analysts wrote.

On Wednesday, crude prices were slightly down after the rally on Tuesday with Brent trading at $56.50 per barrel and WTI trading at $54.26.

Citi expects to see a positive result from an OPEC production cut, which reported 93 percent compliance in January. The bank added that heavy refinery maintenance in Asia planned for the spring is also a decisive factor for oil prices.

Another US bank - Goldman Sachs - expects oil inventories to keep falling globally. While stocks are likely to rise in the US, production cuts and strong growth in demand will be more significant, the bank said.

"We do not view the recent US builds as derailing our forecast for a gradual draw in inventories, with in fact the rest of the world already showing signs of tightness. Given our unchanged 1.5 million barrels per day growth forecast for 2017, this higher base demand level should fully offset higher US output,” Goldman said in a note.

"While the production cuts have so far reached a historically high level of compliance at 90 percent [93 percent, according to OPEC], the rebound in US drilling activity has exceeded even our above consensus expectations," the bank added.

However, the bank warned the data indicates a further improvement in shale productivity and investment in the industry rather than a significant price rise.

Amnesty condemns Trump’s ‘poisonous’ rhetoric, rise of populism in annual report

US President Donald Trump has been lambasted in Amnesty International’s annual report. The NGO slammed Trump’s “poisonous” election campaign and called the US vote one of the seismic political events of the past year.

Donald Trump’s poisonous campaign rhetoric exemplifies a global trend towards angrier and more divisive politics,” the annual report on human rights from Amnesty International said.

Amnesty states that Trump’s election as president was “the most prominent of many seismic events” on the political stage in 2016.

“His [Trump’s] election followed a campaign during which he frequently made deeply divisive statements marked by misogyny and xenophobia, and pledged to roll back established civil liberties and introduce policies which would be profoundly inimical to human rights.”

The document says that the early indications from Trump suggest “a foreign policy that will significantly undermine multilateral co-operation and usher in a new era of greater instability and mutual suspicion.”

READ MORE: War between US media & Trump ‘a waste of time for the American people’

One month into office, President Trump has been working hard to fulfill election promises. One of his first pieces of legislation was the controversial ‘Muslim ban’ which temporarily suspended the entry of travelers from seven mainly-Muslim nations. The ban prompted mass protests in America and worldwide, and was eventually blocked by US courts.

However, despite demonstrations, a recent Harvard-Harris poll, exclusive to the Hill, found strong support for overhauling immigration laws, with 77 percent backing comprehensive immigration reform against 23 percent who oppose reform. Now Trump wants to enforce the nation’s immigration laws more aggressively and speed up deportations.

Rise of populism

In general, the world in 2016 became “a darker and more unstable place” partially due to “the rise of hate speech across large parts of Europe and the USA,” Amnesty writes.

“The gap between imperative and action, and between rhetoric and reality, was stark and at times staggering.”

According to Amnesty, political leaders across the world “wagered their future power on narratives of fear and disunity, pinning blame on the ‘other’ for the real or manufactured grievances of the electorate.

“Any overarching narrative seeking to explain the turbulent events of the past year is likely to be found wanting. But the reality is that we begin 2017 in a deeply unstable world full of trepidation and uncertainty about the future.”

Concerns over the rise of populism have been increasingly loud in the West, and especially in Europe, where previously marginal parties have been gaining popularity amid economic problems and the migrant crisis.

Some countries in Europe, such as the UK and Hungary, have built fences to protect their borders from the large influx of asylum seekers.
Ahead of France’s presidential elections in April and May, numerous polls suggest that right-wing National Front party leader Marine Le Pen is among the favorites.

Refugees

Amnesty also highlighted the global refugee crisis which “assumed still greater magnitude and urgency” during 2016.

The report says that while world leaders “failed to rise to the challenge,” 75,000 refugees remained trapped between Syria and Jordan.

“The lack of solidarity with refugees and fellow EU member states was typical of the migration policies of most EU countries, which united in their plans to restrict entry and expedite return. This became apparent in the failure of the EU’s flagship relocation scheme.”

For millions 2016 was a year of “unrelenting misery and fear, as governments and armed groups abused human rights in a multitude of ways,” according to the report.

Russia

The report also covered Russia, saying that President Vladimir Putin continued to “surf the wave of popularity generated by Russia’s excursions in Ukraine” while restrictions on freedom of expression and peaceful assembly reportedly increased in the country in the past year. It also noted international accusations of alleged war crimes by Russian forces in Syria – allegations Moscow vehemently denies.

The Kremlin shrugged off the report, with Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov saying: “This is not the first report of the kind… and in this very case we disagree with all the conclusions drawn up here.”

Solitary confinement of teens in British prisons ‘against UN torture rules’

Prisons in the UK are keeping teenage offenders in solitary confinement despite the government denying the practice is still in use, an investigation has found.

Young offenders institutions (YOI), which imprison 15- to 18-year-olds, are allegedly using solitary confinement, which can cause mental health issues for inmates, according to the Independent.

Prison inspection reports found that teenagers are self-harming as a result of the distress caused by recurring and prolonged isolation.

Solitary confinement could be infringing British law and Article 16 of the UN Convention Against Torture, under which governments must prevent prison officials from carrying out “acts of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.”

Solitary confinement is defined under international human rights law as “the confinement of prisoners for 22 hours or more a day without meaningful human contact.”

Although the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) claims “segregation” of minors may occur for their own safety, but not for a significant time period, some lawyers have claimed such segregation actually amounts to solitary confinement.

Prison inspectors claim the government has been aware that solitary confinement is taking place in YOIs since at least 2015.

“We found examples of boys … who were locked up for too long with nothing to do and a few cases of boys who said that isolation brought about by restricted regimes had caused them to self-harm,” a report by government prison inspectors in 2015 following a visit to Feltham YOI said.

“The segregation environment remained grim and quite inappropriate for children, with no suitable facility for face-to-face interventions, such as education,” inspectors added.

One inmate’s mother told the Independent that her 16-year-old son, who already suffers from a serious mental health issue, was last year placed in solitary confinement in different jails across the country over a six-month period.

“He was on 23-and-a-half hours in the cell. He was allowed out for a shower or a phone call for half an hour every other day. The cell was disgusting, conditions were filthy,” she said.

“His education was very few and far between; he was slipped a piece of paper under the door – nothing meaningful for education.”

The woman, who spoke under condition of anonymity, claims that even though her son has presently returned to a mainstream cell, he struggles with human interaction because he is so “used to solitary now.”

“He can’t handle human interaction when we visit him with his siblings, he can’t bear to see the children moving about or making noise.”

She added that families are afraid of raising their concerns with officials for fear that they would make their children suffer even more.

“You can’t say anything, it’s a catch-22. No one seems to listen, no one seems to care.”

MPs have called on the government to investigate the findings, which could also be in breach of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child as they amount to “inhuman and degrading treatment.”

“These are incredible allegations that fly in the face of Britain’s obligations both domestically, at European level and internationally,” Liberal Democrats leader Tim Farron told the newspaper.

“The use of solitary confinement should be kept to a bare minimum regardless of age, but is incomprehensible for juveniles,” he added.

DAPL protesters brace for police showdown as camp evacuation deadline looms

The deadline for the evacuation of the Dakota Access Pipeline protest camp finally arrives Wednesday, but several demonstrators have declared they will not leave and are bracing for a stand-off with law enforcement.

Since last August, the Oceti Sakowin camp in North Dakota has served as the base of operations for many Native Americans and environmental activists as they protested the pipeline project which they say threatens the water supply of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.

READ MORE: Multi-billion dollar investors urge bankers to divest from #DAPL

The tribe says the pipeline is being constructed on sacred Native American land and will pass through Lake Oahe, their primary source of drinking water. If completed, the $3.8 billion pipeline project will carry oil from northwest North Dakota to Illinois, passing through South Dakota and Iowa.

Citing concerns over spring flooding and environmental risks from “human waste generated” by the camp population, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum and the US Army Corps of Engineers set a deadline of 2pm (20:00 GMT) Wednesday for activists to vacate the camp in Cannon Ball, North Dakota. The camp sits on Army Corps land.

However some of the protesters say they will not leave the land, setting the scene for a potential showdown with police. There have already been occasional clashes between police and protesters at the camp site.

Protest leaders have said that approximately 300 people remain at the camp. "A lot of them are going to stay and they're not going to give up, no matter what army they bring in to make people back off," one of the camp’s leaders Lewis Grassrope told Newsweek.

A spokesperson for the Morton County Sheriff's Department, Maxine Herr told USA Today they are aware of some protesters’ plans to remain: "There are certainly those that are planning to stay. As much as they are tearing down, they are building."

Representatives from the governor's office have laid out the plan for evacuating the camp.

"The first priority is life health and safety of everyone in this camp as it relates to potential flooding, and the second is preventing an environmental disaster by getting this camp cleaned up as quickly as possible,” Governor Burgum's Policy Advisor Levi Bachmeier told local Fox TV station KFYR.

Bachmeier said the state and the Army Corps will do everything possible to help people leave the site before the deadline by providing buses.

He added that a safe zone would be established south of the camp.

police notice for vacating the camp says buses will take people who are willing to leave to a “Travel Assistance Center”  in Bismarck, North Dakota, where they will get a free health and wellness check-up, a personal hygiene kit and hotel and bus vouchers.

Attempts were made to break into the hospital mortuary holding the body of Kim Jong-nam, according to Malaysian police. The country has refused to hand over the remains to North Korea until it is claimed by a family member.

“We knew there were attempts by someone to break into the hospital mortuary. We had to take precautions. We will not allow anyone to tamper with the mortuary,” Malaysia's Police Chief Khalid Abu Bakar said at a press conference, as reported by the Malay Mail.

Khalid would not identify the break-in suspects, but said they were known to police.

The alleged break-in attempt comes after North Korea’s ambassador to Malaysia reportedly had his request to have the body returned to the country denied. North Korea claims the body is not that of Kim Jong-nam and that the Malaysian police cannot be trusted.

Khalid said that two more people are wanted for questioning in relation to the incident – Kim Uk Il, an employee of North Korea’s state-owned airline Air Koryo, and Hyon Kwang Song, a second secretary at the embassy.

"They've been called in for assistance. We hope the embassy will cooperate with us and allow us to interview them quickly or else we will compel them to come to us," Khalid told reporters according to Reuters"We can't confirm that they are hiding in the embassy."

The announcement brings to eight the number of North Koreans linked to the death of Kim Jong-nam by Malaysian police, four of whom are believed to have returned to North Korea, according to Khalid.

Footage of the alleged attack that killed Kim Jong-nam, half-brother of North Korea’s supreme leader Kim Jong-un, surfaced earlier in the week.

Trump’s newest immigration rules outline ‘expedited removal’ of illegal aliens

President Donald Trump’s latest immigration crackdown rules reveal a plan to introduce the “expedited removal” of illegal aliens, along with increasing the number of immigrants who are not given a court hearing before being deported.

The rules, outlined in two memos released by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Tuesday, states that the Department's personnel have “full authority to arrest or apprehend an alien whom an immigration officer has probable cause to believe is in violation of the immigration laws.”

A plan to establish more detention facilities is also outlined.

‘Expedited removals’

The new rules would also subject immigrants who cannot show they have been in the country for more than two years to “expedited removal."

“The surge of illegal immigration at the southern border has overwhelmed federal agencies and resources and has created a significant national security vulnerability to the United States. Thousands of aliens apprehended at the border, placed in removal proceedings, and released from custody have absconded and failed to appear at their removal hearings...” one of the memos states, citing a “backlog” of removal cases.

It goes on to state that the average removal case for an alien who is not detained is sat pending for more than two years before an immigration judge, while some will not have their cases heard for as long as five years.

“This unacceptable delay affords removable aliens with no plausible claim for relief to remain unlawfully in the United States for many years,” the memo states.

Currently, only those apprehended near a US border who cannot show that they’ve been in the country more than 14 days are subject to removal.

Meanwhile, the plan also outlines an aim to “immediately identify and allocate all sources of available funding for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance” of a border wall between Mexico – one of Trump's key campaign promises.

‘Criminal aliens’

The administration noted that any illegal alien can be deported at any time, but said it would be prioritizing “criminal aliens.” People who have been convicted of a crime, as well as those who have been charged but not convicted, would be affected.

“Criminal aliens have demonstrated their disregard for the rule of law and pose a threat to persons residing in the United States. As such, criminal aliens are a priority for removal,” one of the documents states.

READ MORE: ICE ‘removal orders’ cover 950k illegal immigrants, less than 1 percent captured in raids

The removals would be aided by law enforcement agencies choosing to participate in a program which would grant local officers the authority to act as immigration agents.

“Such officers have the authority to perform all law enforcement functions specified in section 287(a) of the INA, including the authority to investigate, identify, apprehend, arrest, detain, and conduct searches authorized under the INA, under the direction and supervision of the Department...” the same memo states.

In addition, the administration's rules outline the hiring of 5,000 more Border Patrol agents and 10,000 extra Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

‘Take the shackles off’

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said on Tuesday that the new guidelines aim to “take the shackles off” immigration enforcers, stating that the new policies make it clear that the top priority is that “people who pose a threat to our country are immediately dealt with."

He went on to state that although the memos authorize the mass roundups of undocumented immigrants, authorities will not be doing so, and that only about 1 million people fit the criteria for aggressive deportation action.

Still, critics of the new rules are bracing for the worst, with the American Civil Liberties Union saying it will challenge the directives.

Mexican officials also stated that the guidelines could violate Mexican law and international accords governing repatriation, the New York Times reported.

Meanwhile, the executive director of the National Immigration Law Center, Marielena Hincapié, said she believes the new guidelines will lead to raids in immigrant communities.

“We are bracing ourselves for increased raids, increased detention of our family members, of our community members,” she told NBC News.

The rolling out of the guidelines came just one day after demonstrators hit the streets of US cities to speak out against Trump's policies in the ‘Not My President’s Day’ protests. The rallies were the latest in a series of nationwide protests against Trump’s hardline stance towards immigration.

Trump’s January travel ban on people from seven mainly-Muslim countries was thwarted by the US Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, which refused to reinstate the executive order after it was earlier suspended by a lower judge.

The president is expected to roll out a new ban this week, which will target the same countries, but will not affect people with green cards or those who are US dual citizens. It will no longer direct authorities to single out – and reject – Syrian refugees when processing new visa applications, a senior administration official told AP.

Ninety-nine percent of Russia’s intercontinental ballistic missile launchers are combat-capable, while 96 percent are ready to be used on short notice, ensuring an efficient strategic deterrent, Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu told MPs.

“The intercontinental ballistic missiles launchers are being maintained in a way that allows to ensure a nuclear deterrent,” Shoigu told Russian MPs at a State Duma session on Wednesday.

“Ninety-nine percent of the launchers used by the Strategic Missile Forces are combat-capable, and 96 percent of them are permanently ready for immediate use,” Shoigu said.

Russia’s Strategic Missile Forces – the backbone of the country’s defense capabilities – are currently part of a massive rearmament and modernization program, the minister said. The military has received 41 upgraded ballistic missiles, one Borei class fourth-generation nuclear-powered submarine, the ‘Vladimir Monomakh’, and four modernized Tu-160 and Tu-95MS strategic bombers.

“Sixty percent of weaponry in all of our nuclear triad is modern, as well as 62 percent of weaponry in the Strategic Missile Forces,” Shoigu added.

By the end of 2017, all Russian ground troop units will be equipped with cutting-edge Iskander-M mobile short-range ballistic missile systems, which will replace the ageing Tochka-U systems, the defense minister said.

“In addition, all new early-warning radar systems will become operational this year, so that the entire country is protected against missiles of all types, including ballistic missiles,” he stated.

The Russian Army’s modernization program is underway at the same time as the US is proceeding with a buildup in missile defenses in Eastern and Southern Europe. In May 2016, the US switched on a missile defense shield in Romania. A similar missile shield site is expected to come online in Poland in 2018.

While American officials continue to argue the missile defense installations are directed against Iran, Moscow maintains that Tehran’s ballistic missiles are technically unable to reach the US.

Moscow also argues that the missile defense system’s proximity to Russian borders undermines the global balance of power, promising reciprocal steps, including the deployment of Iskander missile systems to its western exclave, Kaliningrad.

Child sex abuse is not being taken seriously by UK police – report

Children reporting violent sexual crimes are not being taken seriously by the police, Britain’s victims’ commissioner, Baroness Newlove, has warned.

Newlove said the authorities are failing young people that come forward with stories of abuse, making them feel like criminals themselves.

In some cases, children said they were simply not believed or told that they were wasting the police’s time.

“They didn’t care because we were three teenage girls,” a young woman said in describing how the police reacted to her call about an assault.

“It’s like we were wasting their time. They couldn’t be bothered with us."

Twelve female victims aged between nine and 17, and some of their parents, were interviewed about their experiences reporting sexual or violent crimes.

Many told the commissioner that they were not treated with the “dignity and respect” they expected, and some girls said they had felt as if they had to “prove themselves” or like “a test subject – a monkey in a cage to be prodded.”

“It seems that lessons are still not being learnt about believing young victims when they come forward and taking them seriously,” the report states, citing previous child abuse inquiries, including the Jimmy Savile and Rotherham grooming network scandals.

In one rape case, a teenage girl was interviewed by male officers on three separate occasions, despite asking for a female officer each time.

One young woman said her worst experience with the criminal justice system was when she was told she had only herself to blame for her own assault, as she had been “being stupid.”

Police were not the only ones the report said were guilty of neglect. Youngsters also claimed social workers, teachers, and society at large were reluctant to believe their stories.

“These children and young victims feel let down by the system that is meant to protect them. It is time attitudes towards them were changed,” Baroness Newlove said.

“I want to see agencies working together to make sure young and vulnerable victims feel supported through the criminal justice process. They deserve to be taken seriously, for their allegations to be thoroughly investigated, and to be treated with dignity and respect,” she said.

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) insists that it is “putting children first at every stage of the justice system” and accused the commissioner of drawing conclusions from a “very small sample of victims’ experiences.”

Clingy pupils could be abuse victims

Baroness Newlove’s report comes as a watchdog warned teachers that the behavior of clingy or bad tempered pupils could be a sign of abuse.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) issued a report in which it urged teachers to summon parents when children appear extremely upset or display strong attachments.

“We want all professionals to be aware and recognize when they need to ask questions or follow up with colleagues about a child’s wellbeing,” NICE’s Professor Gillian Leng said.

“Not all cases will cause concern, but if we do not ask, we may miss opportunities to protect children in their time of need. I guess we can be a bit British and perhaps aren’t curious enough and think we shouldn’t ask the questions.”

However, the watchdog did acknowledge that serious abuse is not behind all behavioral changes, as they could also be caused by the grief that comes with the death of a pet or a divorce.

More American troops may be sent to Syria – US commander

More US troops may be needed in Syria to speed up the campaign against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), the top commander for the Middle East has stated, specifically referring to the push to liberate Raqqa.

“I am very concerned about maintaining momentum,” General Joseph L. Votel, the head of the United States Central Command, told reporters, as quoted by CBS News.

He said local forces being supported by the US “don't have as good mobility, they don't have as much firepower, so we have to be prepared to fill in some of those gaps for them,” noting that such support may involve additional fire support capability and “a variety of other things” to help “offset some of the gaps.”

“It could be that we take on a larger burden ourselves,” he said. “That’s an option.”

Votel stressed, however, that Washington is not considering sending US troops to take over the fighting, and that the strategy developed during the Obama administration of keeping local forces at the forefront would remain unchanged.

His comments were in reference to the mission to liberate Raqqa from IS militants, who have claimed it as their de facto capital.

Votel also stated that Iraqi forces are making rapid gains on the southern outskirts of Mosul, but that the “real test will be once we get into the city itself.”

Eastern Mosul has already been liberated following a 100-day battle in which Iraqi troops suffered heavy casualties. The operation to liberate western Mosul began over the weekend.

Lieutenant General Townsend revealed over the weekend that the 450 American advisers working with the Iraqis in Mosul had moved closer to the front lines in order to stay in touch with Iraqi commanders as they advanced on the city.

The US has about 500 Special Operations troops in Syria. If American military presence were to be expanded, additional troops could come from conventional combat units, the New York Times reported. However, Votel stressed that he would not recommend deploying large combat formations.

“We want to bring the right capabilities forward,” he said. “Not all of those are necessarily resident in the Special Operations community. If we need additional artillery or things like that, I want to be able to bring those forward to augment our operations.”

Why Do “Progressives” Like War? – Philip Giraldi

Ironically, pursuing a reset with Russia is one of the things that Trump actually gets right but the new left won’t give him a break.

Liberals are supposed to be antiwar, right? I went to college in the 1960s, when students nationwide were rising up in opposition to the Vietnam War.

As I look around now, however, I see something quite different.

The lefties I knew in college are now part of the Establishment and generally speaking are retired limousine liberals. And they now call themselves progressives, of course, because it sounds more educated and sends a better message, implying as it does that troglodytic conservatives are anti-progress. But they also have done a flip on the issue of war and peace.

FLASHBACK - Colin Powell leaked emails: Israel has '200 nukes all pointed at Iran', former US secretary of state says

Israel has 200 nuclear weapons, according to the latest revelation hidden in a cache of Colin Powell's leaked emails.

The former US secretary of state revealed the information in an email he sent to a colleague last year, which was obtained by the hacking group DCLeaks and published on LobeLog, a foreign policy blog.

Israel has a policy of nuclear ambiguity and has never talked about the type or size of its weapons, even if it has been an “open secret” that the US ally is well armed.

Two Cheers for Trump Advisor Mike Anton – He Has the Right Enemies

Just as Neocons had no real qualms about a Hillary presidency, they will happily sign on to a progressive agenda as long as it is aggressively pro-Israel and anti-Russian.

Much of the recent hysteria has focused on three high-level Presidential advisors to the president: Steve Bannon, Stephen Miller, and Mike Anton.

Anton, now the senior director of strategic communications at the National Security Council, has given the clearest indication of his attitudes.Written under the pseudonym of “Publius Decius Mus” (a Roman consul who sacrificed his life for the success of his troops) his September 2016 essay “The Flight 93 Election” is in tune with Alt Right themes—with some important exceptions.

New Trump Deportation Rules Allow Far More Expulsions

Under the Obama administration, undocumented immigrants convicted of serious crimes were the priority for removal. Now, immigration agents, customs officers and border patrol agents have been directed to remove anyone convicted of any criminal offense.

That includes people convicted of fraud in any official matter before a governmental agency and people who “have abused any program related to receipt of public benefits.”

Lessons from MILO’s Soon-to-Be Bounce Back

Today was an awful day for Milo Yiannopoulos. He was on a trajectory to have his own show on FoxNews. Today he lost a shot at a show for the foreseeable future, a major breakthrough speaking gig, and a book deal. Dangerous had already pre-sold enough copies to make the New York Times best seller list and was on target to open at #1. It makes no sense to understate how bad Milo’s day was. Short of a family member dying or being a crime victim, today is about as bad as a day gets. That said, life always offers an opportunity for reflection and insight.

4-MEI is an impurity that is created during the manufacturing of caramel colors III and IV. The FDA maintains that they have “no reason to believe” that 4-MEI is carcinogenic. The agency is reportedly re-evaluating the public’s exposure to 4-MEI to ensure manufacturers are using it safely but is not currently recommending dietary changes.

This is rather perplexing because studies conducted by the federal government clearly showed that long-term exposure to 4-MEI increased the incidence of lung cancer in both male and female mice. The federal government’s findings even prompted the state of California to add 4-MEI to their Proposition 65 list of carcinogens. While there are no federal limits yet for 4-MEI, the state of California requires products that contain more than 29 micrograms (mcg) to be labeled.

Sports Direct hacked last year, and still hasn't told its staff of data breach

Sports Direct has left its 30,000-strong workforce in the dark over a data breach in the autumn when a hacker accessed internal systems containing staffers' personal information.

The Register can reveal the UK's largest sports retail business was the subject of a digital break-in during September, when an attacker exploited public vulnerabilities affecting the unpatched version of the DNN platform that Sports Direct was using to run a staff portal.

An inside source with knowledge of the incident told The Register that employees' unencrypted data was stolen during the breach. Sports Direct's internal systems detected the intrusion in September, but it was not until December that the company learned of the data breach.

EU privacy gurus peer at Windows 10, still don't like what they see

The EU’s top privacy body has been probing Windows 10, but isn’t satisfied, even after Microsoft agreed to tweak the consent settings.

Microsoft unveiled new privacy controls as part of its forthcoming “Creators Update” to Windows 10 due this spring. The Working Party first raised the issue of personal data processing in Windows 10 with Microsoft last year.

In a statement seen by Reuters, the Article 29 Working Party finds that the new consent screen presented to users during the installation process still doesn’t sufficiently inform them about what personal data was being collected, and what it was subsequently used for.

TeamSpy hackers get the crew back together after four-year hiatus

Cybercrooks have once again begun slinging malware that subverts elements of the legitimate TeamViewer remote control app to snoop on victims.

The tactic was previously seen in 2013. Attacks typically begin with booby-trapped emails harbouring malicious attachments that pose as eFax messages. If installed, the malicious code uses DLL hijacking to create a backdoor on compromised machines.

The method helps to camouflage spying as well as allowing hackers to snoop on encrypted comms, warns Danish security intelligence firm Heimdal Security.

Democratic Ex-Dove Proposes War on Iran

Rep. Alcee Hastings has sponsored a bill to authorize President Trump to attack Iran. Hastings reintroduced H J Res 10, the “Authorization of Use of Force Against Iran Resolution” on Jan. 3, the first day of the new Congress after President Trump’s election.

Hastings’s bill has come as a shock to constituents and people who have followed his career as a 13-term Democratic Member of Congress from South Florida. Miami Beach resident Michael Gruener called Hastings’s bill, “extraordinarily dangerous,” and asked, “Does Hastings even consider to whom he is giving this authorization?”

I have to wonder just how Rep. Hastings feels about having been "purchased" by Israel to do its bidding in Iran.

But I think that he will find that his transformation into a war hawk will not earn him more votes if he runs for re-election, even with massive AIPAC assistance.

Moreover, I am astonished that what he does not understand is that any war with Iran will almost inevitably lead to a war with Russia; perhaps with his future financial security having been "made" through his utter obeisance to Israel, he doesn't really give a damn about his constituents any more.

Because at this point in its history, the American military does not have the weaponry; the troop strength; the manufacturing; or the money to insure a positive outcome to a conventional war against Russia.

Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant

The plant is located in Central Ukraine near the city of Enerhodar, on the banks of the Kakhovka Reservoir on the Dnieper river. It has 6 VVER-1000 pressurized light water nuclear reactors, each generating 1000 MWe, for a total power output[clarification needed] of 6,000 MWe.[1] The first five were successively brought online between 1985 and 1989, and the sixth was added in 1995. The plant was said to still be in construction till 2030 and will generate a bigger amount of power.

While everyone is trying to blame Russia for the spike in Iodine isotopes in the air, note the map below.

The map does not show any bias towards the arctic. In fact, Poland has the highest reading. One has to wonder if Ukraine, which has a past record of nuclear accident, might have suffered a problem at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, and the "blame Russia for everything" media is shouting "Russian nuclear test" to protect the already beleaguered nuclear power industry.

Merkel: Europe Must Take More Migrants, Islam Is Not The Cause Of Terrorism

Angela Merkel claims that the European Union still has a “responsibility” to take in more so-called refugees, and pleaded to Islamic governments to help convince people that terrorism has nothing to do with Islam.

Say what you want about this lady, but when she doubles down on both theological and geopolitical ignorance, SHE REALLY DOUBLES DOWN!!

And BTW, Chancellor Merkel, whatever George Soros is paying you to do this, it cannot possibly be enough!!!

I know you are too busy running a spectacularly failing campaign to secure another go at the Chancellorship, but someone in your administration should be looking at the following, and give you a synopsis of these articles, which describe how radical Islam leads to jihad:

From dawa to jihad:
The various threats from radical Islam to the democratic legal order

The Saudi Connection: Wahhabism and Global Jihad

and lastly:

Saudi Arabia funds and exports Islamic extremism: The truth behind the toxic U.S. relationship with the theocratic monarchy

The German people have had it with this seemingly endless flow of immigrants. And no matter how you try to suppress the truth about the problems this immigration flow has generated, it has - and will -continue to come out, and there is utterly no way for you to stop it.

Germany's migrant rape crisis out of control

Germans opposing mass migration are free to leave

Merkel under fire as refugee crisis in Germany worsens

Migrant Crisis: Thousands more could head to Germany as Syrians demand families join them

Police check 10% of refugees as migration grows out of control

On this issue, you are sounding just as shrill and tone-deaf to your brother and sister Germans as do the EU Autocrats in Brussels to the EU's member countries. So if you want any possible positive "bounce" to your current candidacy, here is what you need to do:

1. Please talk, seriously, to President Trump about ending the wars which are creating these refugees, and about ways of creating political settlements which will let the people of the Middle East live in peace.

2. Cap the number of refugees to what you have now, and make sure that the police vet every single alleged refugee; not just 10% of them.

3. Immerse them in the language and culture of your country, and get them educated. If they want to assimilate, fine; if they do not, repatriate them.

And let me end this by saying that I have, this lifetime, been privileged and blessed to meet, and hang with, some Muslim people who are the absolute poster children for tolerance.

I remember one in particular who was an absolute gentleman, an Indian Muslim who spoke better English than many people who learn it in this country.

He married a Buddhist, and they named their little girl "Sarah", the name of a Jewish Princess! This guy is an absolute gem of a human being, and if I had the ability to grant him an American green card, I would do it in a heartbeat, because I know, and without any doubt, that he and his family would contribute to the furthering of the American way of life, and would adapt.

I would say the same for the chef, Nadiya Jamir Hussain, a Muslim daughter of Bangladeshi immigrants, and the winner of “The Great British Bake Off": she demonstrated what is possible when immigrants participate positively in the culture and tradition of their adopted country. I saw her on Graham Norton's talk show, and their is great beauty in this woman's spirit.

But European governments, like Merkel's, have to take the responsibility of embracing those who will assimilate; and weeding out those who have become actively involved in radical Islam to the point of potentially harming citizens of their host country.

Meanwhile, Rioting Breaks Out In Sweden

It would appear the mainstream media (along with several celebrities and Swedish politicians) is going to be apologizing to President Trump once again.

During the evening hundreds of young people gathered in the center of Rinkeby, well known for its high concentration of immigrants and people with immigrant ancestry.

Housing affordability shows that most Americans are too broke to buy a home: The American Dream moves further out of reach.

More Americans are finding it harder to afford a home. In fact, a closely followed housing affordability index is now back to where it was in 2008. Not exactly a prime time for buying homes. Most Americans are too broke to afford a home. Which is somewhat contrary to the narrative that is pumped out via pro housing propaganda. Buying a home is always a good deal! Real estate never falls! Only fools rent! So goes the story about buying real estate. Yet given current prices, many families find the dream of owning a home more of a far flung aspiration than a reasonable financial reality. We can see this trend unfolding with the vast number of new renter households over the last decade. Younger Americans are saddled with mountains of student debt and many are making lower wages. Taking on a large mortgage simply isn’t appealing or feasible when an albatross of debt is already being carried.

We make this request because we note that you currently list on your site several of our California colleagues, such as Professors Bettina Aptheker, Nancy Scheper-Hughes, Melina Abdullah, Hatem Bazian and some 20 others, whose work is distinguished by its commitment to reasoned, fact-based civil discourse examining questions of tolerance, equality, and justice.

IMAGE OF THE DAY ~~ THE BILLBOARD THAT WENT ASTRAY

“On Feb. 6, 2017 this ‘America First’ highway billboard was erected in Ann Arbor, Michigan by the group Deir Yassin Remembered. A week later Adams Outdoor Advertising told the group that their billboard had to come down. It has since been removed.”

ADMINISTRATIVE DETENTION AS A TOOL OF REPRESSION

Administrative Detention is widely used by the Israeli occupation regime to suppress political activity and social organizations in the West Bank. It is less known that the same (or a similar) anti-democratic law holds also inside those territories that Israel occupied and ethnically cleaned in 1948 and is used against Palestinian there, which are formally citizens of “democratic” Israel.

In a new post in Free Haifa I bring in detail the case of Muhammad Ibrahim, a 20 year old computer technician from Kabul in the Galilee, whose administrative detention was prolonged on December 2016 for a second 6 months period.

New vaccines will permanently alter human DNA

Consider this article in light of the accelerating push to mandate and enforce vaccination across the planet.

The reference is the New York Times, 3/9/2015, “Protection Without a Vaccine.” It describes the frontier of research. Here are key quotes that illustrate the use of synthetic genes to “protect against disease,” while changing the genetic makeup of humans. This is not science fiction:

DHS cancels Obama policies, orders agents to expand deportations

Homeland Security Secretary John F. Kelly officially ordered federal agents this week to begin arresting and deporting more illegal immigrants, releasing them from the handcuffs the Obama administration had imposed, and making headway on one of President Trump’s chief campaign promises.

?How about we call it quits? No more forcing 320 million people into a single mold

Some of our assumptions are so deeply embedded that we cannot perceive them ourselves.

Case in point: everyone takes for granted that it’s normal for a country of 320 million to be dictated to by a single central authority. The only debate we’re permitted to have is who should be selected to carry out this grotesque and inhumane function.

Here’s the debate we should be having instead: what if we simply abandoned this quixotic mission, and went our separate ways? It’s an idea that’s gaining traction — much too late, to be sure, but better late than never.

Finns 'VR-Bomb' Helsinki to Make It Look Like 'Hell on Earth' Aleppo

"We wanted to bring viewers a sense how it feels when your hometown and everything that you cherish there gets destroyed. Like those people who are forced to leave their own country as refugees," Yle editor and anchor Peter Westerholm relayed.

This isn't news reporting. It's manufactured propaganda.

German Press Cries 'Russia' After Bundeswehr Faces Rape Allegation in Lithuania

According to these "anonymous sources," the report was investigated by the Lithuanian government, which checked with the police and the Bundeswehr and found no record of the crime.

NATO immediately characterized the episode as a "fake news" story orchestrated by Russia, despite no evidence of Russian involvement.

Without any further investigation into the allegations, Der Spiegel and other German news outlets decided to publish NATO's accusation as fact.

Russian Foreign Minister Slams Ukraine for Blocking UN Statement on Churkin

Ukraine's decision to block the adoption by the UN Security Council of a statement dedicated to late Russian ambassador Vitaly Churkin is "beyond good and evil," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said during a joint press conference with his Swedish counterpart Margot Wallstroem following their meeting in Moscow on Tuesday, February 21.

"I know how the UNSC works. I have almost no doubt that [Ukraine's] permanent representative would not have done this on his own. This means that he was ordered to do it," Lavrov elaborated.

Ukraine just made itself the prime suspect in the recent series of assassinations of Russian diplomats.

Propaganda (1928) by Edward Bernays

The term "propaganda," incidentally, did not have negative connotations in those days. It was during the second World War that the term became taboo because it was connected with Germany, and all those bad things. But in this period, the term propaganda just meant information or something like that. So he wrote a book called Propaganda around 1925, and it starts off by saying he is applying the lessons of the first World War. The propaganda system of the first World War and this commission that he was part of showed, he says, it is possible to "regiment the public mind every bit as much as an army regiments their bodies." These new techniques of regimentation of minds, he said, had to be used by the intelligent minorities in order to make sure that the slobs stay on the right course. We can do it now because we have these new techniques.

White House Leakers In The Process Of Being Exposed

Trump is introducing a new travel ban. The deep state is now pushing to have Trump removed using the 25 Amendment. Leaks from the White House was done on purpose to flush out the leakers.

China orders GPS tracking of every car in troubled region

Security officials in China’s violence-stricken north-west have ordered residents to install GPS tracking devices in their vehicles so authorities are able to keep permanent tabs on their movements.

The compulsory measure, which came into force this week and could eventually affect hundreds of thousands of vehicles, is being rolled out in the Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture of Xinjiang, a sprawling region that borders Central Asia and sees regular eruptions of deadly violence.

The move comes amid an apparent spike in killing that authorities blame on Islamist extremists and separatists but experts say is also fuelled by ethnic friction between Han Chinese migrants and members of the predominantly Muslim Uighur minority to whom Xinjiang is home.

Since last Thursday mass anti-terror parades involving thousands of heavily armed troops have been staged in three of Xinjiang’s most important cities following two deadly attacks in which more than a dozen people were slain.

A memo to the Chinese Government; suppression only works for a little while, but you certainly have your work cut out for you in terms of taking every practical measure possible to reduce the tensions between the indigenous Uighurs and the Han Chinese, who have migrated to Xinjiang.

Libyan Labels: a journey through the Guardian’s coverage of the Libyan disaster

In this analysis we examine Libya’s recent history looking through the eyes of the Guardian, the flagship of liberal western outlets, and its reporting. As with most other western media, the Guardian was an enthusiastic supporter of the NATO intervention that overthrew Gaddafi and threw the country into the disaster that we are about to describe. Faithful to western interests then, the Guardian remains faithful afterwards as well. But imperial designs are laden with contradictions and sometimes drastically change course, but the Guardian dutifully follows. More interestingly, in light of the complex Libyan situation, the Guardian resorts to labels, adjectives, to distinguish the “good” (i.e. western-supported) actors from the “bad” ones. And as western powers stumble from one strategy to the next, these labels change accordingly.

The Left’s All-Out War on Trump & America’s Silent Majority

What the naive among us need to understand is that the left plays hardball. Liberals subscribe to an end-justifies-the-means philosophy. They are not fair. They don’t intend to be fair. They believe they are entitled to advance their America-transforming agenda whether in or out of power, and no amount of wishful thinking can alter that reality.

SYRIAN REFUGEE SEXUALLY ASSAULTS 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL AT SCHOOL DANCE, VICTIM ENCOURAGED TO ‘SEE IT FROM HIS PERSPECTIVE’

A 14-year-old Canadian girl was sexually assaulted at a high school dance by a Syrian refugee, who was also enrolled in the school.

The incident occurred when two Syrian refugees began grinding on the 14-year-old girl. Soon, one of the Syrian boys began groping the girl’s breasts before sticking his hand inside her underwear and touching her vagina.

Perhaps the most troubling part of the story occurred after the incident, when documents obtained in a freedom of information request revealed school officials standing up for the Syrian boy.

Russian automaker kickstarts sales in Germany

Major Russian car producer AvtoVAZ has started selling the new Lada Vesta model in Germany, the company announced on Tuesday.

"At the moment more than 200 Lada Vesta cars have been shipped to Germany. The starting price for a sedan with a manual transmission will be about €12,500 and will reach €13,300 for automatic,” AvtoVAZ said on its website.

"Windows as a service" means big, painful changes for IT pros

Everything you know about Windows deployment is undergoing wrenching changes. For IT pros who've grown accustomed to "set it and forget it" as a management strategy, three big changes are making life much more challenging.

Nasa planetary scientists want to promote Pluto to the status of a planet again

Alan Stern, the lead scientist on the New Horizon mission by Nasa has told Tech Insider that the definition of a planet currently used by the IAU is “Bull****”. Stern points out the complex geography on Pluto, including an atmosphere thicker than mercury, water ice mountains that are bigger than the Rocky mountains on Earth, and ridges on frozen plains that are signs of geological activity. “You really should listen to planetary scientists that know something about this subject. When we look at an object like Pluto, we don’t know what else to call it.”

I agree. Pluto is a planet.

The New Wave of Violent Protests Is Exactly What The Elite Want - Here’s Why

If one is sincerely opposed to racism, sexism, and fascism then it may be best for him to refrain from engaging in racist, sexist, and fascist means to support his cause. The fact these radical leftist factions utilize such means indicates a more sinister and subtle objective than the purported one of “social justice.” And unfortunately, any legitimate peaceful protests to stop injustice will be deemed illegitimate and the cause ignored as it will be immediately associated with violence. Aside from the societal damage created by such violence and intolerance, this divisive and obstinate environment plays right into the hands of those who want to keep you under control. -- When objectively assessed, these violent protests are revealed as being among the most bigoted, hateful, and dangerous threats to the cause of liberty.

Rioters set cars on fire, loot shops in Stockholm suburb

Police in Sweden were forced to fire warning shots after a group of unidentified persons ran riots in the Rinkeby district of Stockholm late on Monday, setting cars on fire, throwing stones at police and looting local stores.
A police officer was injured during the clashes, forcing law enforcers to fire several warning shots at the crowd, Swedish public service broadcaster SVT reported, citing a local police spokesperson.

So much for "Safe Sweden".

And here are a couple of follow-on articles:

Police in Swedish city appeal for public help amid ‘upward spiral of violence’

Leading Swedish mall turned into ‘no-go zone’ by migrant teen gangs – report

And to CNN's Don Lemon, who verbally savaged the documentary maker Ami Horowitz for allegedly using false and deceptive statistics to paint an anti-immigrant picture of what is happening in Sweden on his segment; Filmmaker triggers President's Sweden Controversy" Don, why don't you take your next vacation in Malmo soon, and see for yourself just what is going on here?!?

I mean, don't CNN watchers have the right to the truth?!?

Or, is the truth "inconvenient", because it does not support the US's and Swedish narrative about this immigration "going beautifully"?!?

I'm just saying, Don; it appears that your "orders" from your network were to do a brutal takedown of this guy, when the facts and the narrative collide, and on this issue, given the above articles, that seems to have been the "justification" for your approach.

Will Juncker finally quit in row over closer union? EU chief could walk out if his plans to reshape Europe are blocked

Jean-Claude Juncker may dramatically walk out of his top Brussels post just weeks before Brexit negotiations begin amid an escalating row about his plans to reshape Europe, it emerged yesterday.

The outspoken European Commission president is said to have been left furious after several top leaders tried to block the release of his grand blueprint on the future of the EU.

SD Bishop Calls on Catholics to Protest Trump: ‘We Must All Become Disrupters’

In a pointed speech this weekend, the bishop of San Diego attacked U.S. President Donald Trump, telling his audience of social justice warriors that they must disrupt Trump’s efforts to fulfill his campaign promises.

In a 20-minute address to the U.S. regional meeting of the World Meeting of Popular Movements, Bishop Robert McElroy said that “President Trump was the candidate of disruption. He was the disrupter.”

“Well, now we must all become disrupters,” he said.

Left-wing Activist Group Releases Anti-Trump ‘training manual’

Over the past few weeks, a hard left activist group has been promoting their newest “training manual” aimed at short-circuiting GOP legislators who actually want to repeal Obamacare, build a real border wall, and properly vet immigrants entering the United States.

Another French police officer is accused of raping a male suspect with a truncheon as a second person is revealed to have been abused with a baton during an arrest

A Paris police officer has been accused of anally raping a man during an arrest - just days after a similar allegation sparked mass protests across the country.

It is claimed that a young man was molested with a baton in October 2015 while he was being arrested.

The allegation has come to light just over two weeks after a 22-year-old man named Theo was left with horrific injuries after allegedly being violated with a truncheon.

Golly Gee! Wonder who the rioters are. Trump was right!

Police in Sweden were forced to fire warning shots after a group of unidentified persons ran riots in the Rinkeby district of Stockholm late on Monday, setting cars on fire, throwing stones at police and looting local stores.

Radioactive Iodine from Fukushima Found in California Kelp

Kelp off Southern California was contaminated with short-lived radioisotopes a month after Japan’s Fukushima accident, a sign that the spilled radiation reached the state’s urban coastline, according to a new scientific study.

FRAMING RUSSIA? Concerns Grow About A Nuclear "Incident" In Europe After Spike In Radioactive Iodine Levels

It is possible that Russia detonated Tactical nuclear Bomb in violation of the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, or suffered a nasty Naval Reactor Accident in Novaya Zemlya.

Anyone can sail ships or fly planes into the arctic. And nations conducting illegal nuclear tests often conduct them far from home. The Vela Incident, which happened near Bouvet Island in the South Atlantic, is thought to have been a joint Israeli/South African test. So, it is premature to lay the blame on Russia. For all we know it could be Al Gore trying to melt the arctic ice to boost ticket sales for his latest mockumentary, "An Inconvenient Truth 2!" :)

Farage supports Donald Trump and claims Swedish city could be 'rape capital of the world

The former Ukip leader suggested the property mogul had been unfairly criticised for his speech at a rally in Florida on Saturday and went one step further by suggesting a Swedish city could now be the “rape capital of the world”.

Mr Trump indicated there had been a terrorist incident in Sweden the night before, which led to mockery, including from the former Swedish Prime Minister, as there had not been anything resembling a terror attack on Friday night.

But speaking on his LBC show, Nigel Farage was quick to defend the Republican billionaire and suggested Malmo, a city in the south of the country, may be the world’s rape capital.

Thousands Rally At Anti-Trump ‘Not My Presidents Day’ Events

Mercedes Vizcaino, 42, works in New York City and came to Monday’s protest with a friend who is a science teacher.

“I think it’s important to take a stand and not be complicit about what’s going on in the country,” Vizcaino said. “Democracy as we know it is being challenged. ... My freedoms that I’ve cherished and perhaps never thought about disappearing, right now I know they may be taken away.”

Really?!?

Are there any particular "freedoms" Ms. Vizcaino believes President Trump is going to "take away", and could she possibly articulate what those are, please?!?

Notice that there is absolutely nothing specific to which she can allude; this just an emotional, fact-free outburst which she is perfectly within her rights to express, under the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

But here's the problem; there is nothing logical she can say with which she can justify her viewpoint.

And the crowds, being "thousands"?!? Really?!?

Please take a good hard look at how tightly the shots are cropped in this article; had there been thousands at this demonstration, the photographers wouldn't have needed to do this.

Drudge Put It Perfectly: Congressional Republicans Flail and Fail

Republican leadership in the House and Senate are thwarting the Trump agenda with their gross incompetence. Drudge was spot on to accuse them of fraud, and Sen. Rand Paul is correct to team up with freedom loving members of the House and Senate to jump start the process of repealing Obamacare. At some point, establishment Republicans need to understand that if they continue to break promises to right-leaning Trump voters, they will hand over power to the Democrats.

Scrapping Trump's visit 'would hurt Britain and help Putin', MPs are warned as 2,000 protest against the President outside the Commons

Banning Donald Trump would be against the national interest and only benefit Vladimir Putin because it would ‘divide the West’, MPs said yesterday.

The warnings came during fierce clashes in a debate on whether the US President should be given a state visit to Britain.

Sir Simon Burns said a ban would ‘isolate’ the UK and make it ‘less influential’.

That is why Soros wants Trump's visit cancelled. He is afraid of what two anti-globalist powers linking up might be able to do!

BEX ALERT - Is Putin the world's real richest man? After 17 years in power, Russian leader has a '$200 billion fortune, 58 planes and helicopters and 20 palaces and country retreats'

During his two decades in power, Putin's net worth has been widely speculated

One of the most quoted guesses of the 64-year-old's net worth is Political analyst Stanslav Belkovsky's 2007 estimation of $40billion

But Bill Browder, author and a former fund manager in Russia, has said the president could be worth upwards of $200billion

They are even admitting this is all wild guessing!

55,710 U.S. Bridges Are 'Structurally Deficient,' Fed Govt Bridge Study Reveals

An analysis of the U.S. Department of Transportation's (U.S. DOT) recently-released 2016 National Bridge Inventory data finds cars, trucks and school buses cross the nation's 55,710 structurally compromised bridges 185 million times daily. Iowa has the most structurally deficient bridges in the nation, 4,968, (20.5%) followed by Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Missouri, Nebraska, Illinois, Kansas, Mississippi, Ohio and New York, comprising the "top ten" states with the most dangerous bridges. Perhaps not coincidentally, District of Columbia had the least number of structurally deficient bridges, with only 9 out of 245 total needing repair.

Furious row erupts WITHIN Merkel’s government as ‘minister enforces MEAT BAN at functions’

Tags:

ANGELA Merkel’s government has descended into disarray after the environment minister reportedly banned the consumption of meat at official functions.

Barbara Hendricks is said to have imposed her meat-ban after insisting meat is damaging to the environment and vegetarian food should only be served at official events, according to the Telegraph.

But a rival minister accused her of “nanny-statism” and trying to force vegetarianism on people “by the back door”.

Merkel just lost the votes of all of Germany's sausage makers!
