Montreal votes to become ‘sanctuary city’ for non-registered migrants

The council of Canada’s second most-populous city has voted to adopt the status of a ‘sanctuary’ for non-status immigrants. The motion means that any undocumented migrant will have full access to local services without fear of being turned in or deported.

The motion was passed by Montreal city council on Monday, and was initially put forward by Mayor Denis Coderre, who is also a former Canadian immigration minister.

Addressing the press, Coderre said Montreal has the means to take care of the refugees living there, and that it was time for the city to take action.

[We can provide] healthcare, housing, integration. A lot of these people are victims. They’ve been victims of terrorist acts, they’ve been kicked out of their country or left because of their situation – from sexual orientation to political refugees. Some of them have been here six, seven, eight years.
“We have the capacity to provide services under our own jurisdiction, so when we are talking about housing, when we are talking about basic service – we will be able to do that,” Coderre said, as cited by CTV News.

Under the motion, the refugees will gain access to municipal housing programs, and will be able to visit libraries and recreational centers. Those without documents will be subject to assistance from Montreal police without being reported to immigration officials.

The Montreal authorities also called on the Quebec government, which is responsible for provincial immigration, to ensure the refugees are granted access to healthcare and emergency services, while urging the federal government to regularize the status of undocumented migrants.

The bottom line is to integrate them. And if you don’t have a criminal case [or pose a security risk], we will normalize your situation. You will be able to remain here,” he promised.
According to Global News, there may be as many as 50,000 undocumented migrants in Montreal.

The mayor noted that he saw the need to act after recent events in the United States. More and more people have been crossing the US border into Canada illegally, after US President Donald Trump launched a crackdown on illegal immigration and proposed placing restrictions on refugees.

Citing Canada’s border services agency, the Star reports that some 452 people filed claims for refugee asylum at Quebec-US land border crossings in January.

Some advocate groups merely see Montreal’s move as “symbolic,” saying that the motion will be “inadequate” if it is not followed by more specific measures to help refugees.

The City of Montreal needs to get beyond easy symbolism and undertake tangible measures […] to end deportations and ensure access without fear by undocumented migrants to all essential services including health care, education and housing,” said Stacey Gomez, a community organizer of Solidarity Across Borders.

The group had been campaigning for Montreal to be declared a sanctuary city since 2009, and is now calling for Montreal to become a “solidarity city,” which would include non-collaboration with police authorities with regard to illegal refugees.

Montreal is now Canada’s fourth sanctuary city, after Toronto, Hamilton and London, Ontario, passed similar legislation. Ottawa, Saskatoon, Winnipeg and Regina are also mulling over the idea, according to CBC. Vancouver is not a sanctuary city, but it last year adopted an ‘Access to City Services Without Fear’ policy for undocumented residents or people with uncertain immigration status.

As of December last year, the US had roughly 300 sanctuary cities, counties and states, including New York and Washington, according to data from the Center for Immigration Studies.  However, President Trump recently threatened to cut federal funding to such cities if they fail to cooperate with his stated plans to deport undocumented residents.

Journalists mock far-right editor's offer of free trip to ‘crime-ridden’ Swedish city

Never underestimate the lure of a free holiday as the editor of a far-right publication found out when he offered a paid trip to the “crime-ridden migrant suburbs of Malmo.” Not surprisingly, people were happy to take up his offer of a trip to Sweden.

Infowars Editor-At-Large Paul Watson tweeted his offer to pay travel costs for journalists “to stay in crime-ridden migrant suburbs of Malmo” in an apparent response to the ridiculing of Donald Trump over comments he made about a non-existent crisis in Sweden.

Watson’s post quickly drew responses from thousands of people, most of whom weren’t too fazed by the dangers he claimed the suburb of Malmo posed.

“Can I bring my wife too?” journalist Kurt Eichenwald asked.

“I will send you my bank info and send you selfies from Malmo,” another journalist, Joey Ayoub, responded.

Even non-journalists attempted to take up the offer, including comedian Al Murray who described Sweden as “an ace city break” and Dom Joly, who previously holidayed in North Korea and Chernobyl for a book titled ‘The Dark Tourist.’

Watson has ridiculed journalists who mocked his offer, tweeting about crime in Sweden and asking if they would feel comfortable walking through Malmo’s “migrant suburbs” at night.

He has made good on his promise to one journalist who accepted his offer, donating $2,000 to a GoFundMe to bring US journalist Tim Pool to Sweden to investigate the alleged crime wave.

Sweden found itself at the center of global attention following comments made by Trump at the weekend. He suggested the country had experienced a significant incident related to its immigration policies the previous night. The president’s comments stemmed from a story broadcast on Fox News about which key subjects have since claimed their statements were taken out of context.

Last night riots erupted in the Stockholm district of Rinkeby, as police arrested a wanted suspect at a subway station. Between 30 and 50 people were involved in the disturbances, according to police.

A police officer was injured in the riot, which saw several warning shots fired at the crowd. It’s not known if any immigrants were involved in the unrest.

Theresa May must withdraw ‘desperate’ Trump state visit invitation, say MPs

MPs of all parties called for “disgusting” US President Donald Trump to be barred from making a UK state visit later this year following Prime Minister Theresa May’s “desperate” invitation.

MPs spoke out on Monday during a Parliament debate, which was triggered by a 1.85 million-strong petition calling for Trump’s state visit to be blocked as it would be an “embarrassment” to the Queen.

A counter petition signed by 300,000 was also debated.

Branding the president “disgusting” and “immoral,” MPs urged May to withdraw her invitation, which was deemed an “act of desperation” as it came just seven days after his inauguration.

By comparison, his predecessor Barack Obama was only invited to the UK some 758 days after he was sworn in as president, while George W. Bush waited more than two-and-a-half years.

The debate took place while thousands rallied outside Parliament in an anti-Trump protest chanting “Hey hey, hey ho; Trump and Brexit’s got to go,” and “No Trump, no Brexit; no racist EU exit.”

Labour’s Dawn Butler said the US had a “pretty nasty virus, and it’s important that virus doesn’t spread.”

Former Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond also slammed May’s apparently submissive attitude towards the controversial President.

“As an example of fawning subservience, the Prime Minister holding hands [with Trump] would be difficult to match,” he said.

“To do it in the name of shared values was stomach churning. What exactly are the shared values that this house, this country would hope to have?” Salmond said.

A number of Conservative MPs did however stand by their leader’s decision, arguing May is correct to foster good relations with one of the UK’s oldest allies.

“When we stand up in this country and condemn him for being racist, and I have seen no evidence of that, I have seen no evidence of him being racist, we are actually attacking the American people,” Tory Nigel Evans said.

His view was echoed by veteran Conservative MP Edward Leigh, who said there is “no proof that the travel ban is racist.”

Westminster Hall was so packed with MPs wanting to have their say on the controversial issue that they were each given a time limit of just five minutes.

However, the government has already said the president should be “extended the full courtesy of a state visit.”

“It would be interesting to see how much time and public money was wasted on today’s debate - it achieved nothing apart from offering some, who have nothing better to do, the opportunity to grandstand,” a government source said.

“The British people will be more interested in the important debate in the Lords on Brexit.”

A Muslim school teacher was dumped in Iceland while on a school trip after being denied entry into the United States.

Juhel Miah, a “popular and respected” math teacher from Neath Port Talbot in South Wales, was taking his students to New York when US officials refused to let him through.

Miah’s singling out during a Reykjavik stopover and his later ban from entering the country were described as an “unjustified act of discrimination.”

The February 16 incident took place despite Miah’s valid travel visa and the US appeals court decision to suspend Donald Trump’s executive order banning people from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the US.

“We are appalled by the treatment of Mr Miah and are demanding an explanation,” a spokesman for Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council said.

“No satisfactory reason has been provided for refusing entry to the United States – either at the airport in Iceland or subsequently at the US embassy in Reykjavik. Mr Miah attempted to visit the embassy but was denied access to the building. Understandably he feels belittled and upset at what appears to be an unjustified act of discrimination.”

According to witnesses, Miah was originally informed at the check-in desk in Iceland that he had been selected for a “random security check” and thoroughly searched before being given an all-clear.

As he was boarding the plane, however, another official approached him and he was no longer allowed to fly. The teacher was then escorted out of the airport, given back his luggage and dropped off at a hotel.

“Everyone was looking at me. The teachers and kids were confused. I couldn’t believe this was happening,”Miah told Wales Online.

“I was being escorted out. It made me feel like a criminal. I couldn’t speak, I was lost for words.”

When in the hotel, he noticed that his suitcase had been broken into. The emotional harm of the incident meant he couldn’t “sleep or eat for two days.”

Neath Port Talbot Council confirmed the trip went ahead as planned, but added that Miah’s students and colleagues had been left “shocked and distressed” after watching him being removed from the plane.

The US embassy in Britain did not comment on the case, but a Foreign Office spokeswoman confirmed: “We are providing support to a British man who was prevented from boarding a flight in Reykjavik.”

Is Edward Snowden set to be given asylum by Europe? MEPs push EU to take in whistleblower

Mr Snowden is currently living in exile in Russia but European politicians fear that the Mr Trump’s cosy relationship with Vladimir Putin could put him in grave danger.

But their call for him to be granted asylum within the EU will surely enrage the White House administration and comes at a tricky time for relations between Brussels and Washington.

...

Brussels parliamentarians have also previously had their say on the issue, passing a resolution back in 2015 calling on Europe to protect Mr Snowden from Barack Obama’s government, which was seeking his extradition.

It said member states should “drop any criminal charges against Edward Snowden, grant him protection and consequently prevent extradition or rendition by third parties, in recognition of his status as whistleblower and international human rights defender”.

Sweden on the brink? Police force pushed to breaking point by violence amid migrant influx

SWEDEN is on the brink of becoming a lawless state as the police force is losing the battle against unprecedented levels of crime and violence amid a growing migrant crisis.

The Scandinavian country is facing an existential crisis with on average three police officers handing in their resignations a day.

If the alarming trend continues, and police officers continue to resign more than 1,000 officers will have quit the service by New Years.

Since the migrant crisis began last summer, Sweden has been hit by a series of brutal crimes and violent incidents.

In 2015 alone Sweden, with a population of 9.5million, received over 160,000 asylum applications and the country is expected to take as many as 190,000 refugees, or two per cent of the population, by the end of 2016.

Google bellows bug news after Microsoft sails past fix deadline

By: malterwitty

On this occasion, the bug allows attackers to access memory using EMF metafiles, a tool implemented in the Windows Graphics Component GDI library (gdi32.dll) and which helps applications to use graphics. And once an attacker is in memory, things can get interesting.

Mateusz Jurczyk, the Google chap who found the bug and others like it in the past, writes that Redmond fixed similar messes he reported last year. But he also alleges that the fix for those flaws, MS16-074, didn't completely address issues that allow access to memory. So he told Microsoft about the issue on November 16th, 2016, and waited. And waited. And waited until last week's we-don't-call-it-patch-Tuesday-anymore came and went because Microsoft needed more time to get a new patch dump just right.

At which point the 90-day policy kicked in and Google pulled the trigger, revealing the flaw to the world.

'Atmospheric river' drives ANOTHER catastrophic rain storm towards California - including its stricken dam - as state braces for MORE flooding and residents are told they could have just 15 minutes to evacuate

Engineers at the stricken Oroville Dam in Northern California have increased the rate at which they are draining water from the reservoir as a powerful rain storm driven by the phenomenon known as an 'atmospheric river' hits the state.

In anticipation of the storm which threatens widespread flooding in many areas, supervisors increased the amount of water being channeled out of the dam to accommodate incoming rain.

The amount of water flowing down the spillway was increased from 55,000 cubic feet a second (cfs) to 60,000 cfs on Sunday afternoon. Earlier this week, outflows were at nearly 100,000 cfs.

Trump’s Watergate All About Drowning Out Russia

Evidently, the big purpose here is to direct Trump to adopt a harder line on Russia and to abandon any notion of developing cordial relations.

The adage about One Man’s Terrorist is Another Man’s Freedom Fighter is aptly paraphrased for the running battle in Washington between President Trump and his intelligence agencies. Only instead of «terrorist» substitute the word «leaker».

Trump has hit back after his National Security Advisor Michael Flynn was forced to resign over disclosed phone contacts he had with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak earlier this year. With barely contained anger, Trump described the leaks as «criminal» and «un-American» and has scorned media outlets for conspiring to destabilize his presidency – only less than one month after taking office.

President Trump: Diplomacy and Democracy in America

Win or lose, the Trump Administration has opened a debate on the possibilities of peace with a nuclear superpower, a re-examination of the huge trade deficit and the necessity to stand-up for democracy against authoritarian threats from the so-called ‘intelligence community’ against an elected President.

By the end of the first month of President Trump’s Administration we are in a better position to evaluate the policies and direction of the new President. An examination of foreign and domestic policy, particularly from a historical and comparative perspective will provide insights about whether America is heading for a catastrophe as the mass media claim or toward greater realism and rationality.

We will proceed by examining whether Trump pursues diplomacy over warfare.

SpaceX launches and lands Falcon rocket from historic spaceport

SpaceX successfully launched a Falcon 9 rocket on Sunday on a resupply mission to the International Space Station (ISS) that marks a new era of private spaceflight at one of Nasa’s most storied bases.

A Falcon 9 rocket took off at about 9.40am eastern from the Kennedy Space Center, off the coast of central Florida, from a launchpad that has seen off some of Nasa’s most famous missions but has gone unused since the agency retired its space shuttle fleet in 2011.

After twin sonic booms of re-entry through skies mottled with clouds, the rocket booster’s landing legs deployed, its thruster engines fired and it landed, almost delicately, at a landing pad at Cape Canaveral. A few minutes later, the Dragon capsule reached orbit and its solar arrays deployed.

US Congress launches a probe into climate data that duped world leaders over global warming

Revelations by the Mail on Sunday about how world leaders were misled over global warming by the main source of climate data have triggered a probe by the US Congress.

Republican Lamar Smith, who chairs the influential House of Representatives Committee on Science, Space and Technology, announced the inquiry last week in a letter to Benjamin Friedman, acting chief of the organisation at the heart of the MoS disclosures, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

He renewed demands, first made in 2015, for all internal NOAA documents and communications between staff behind a controversial scientific paper, which made a huge impact on the Paris Agreement on climate change of that year, signed by figures including David Cameron and Barack Obama.

Lawmakers probe US funding for Soros groups, left-wing causes in Europe

George Soros' alleged meddling in European politics has caught the attention of Congress.

Concerns about Soros' involvement most recently were raised by the Hungarian prime minister, who last week lashed out at the Soros "empire" and accused it of deploying "tons of money and international heavy artillery."

But days earlier, Republican lawmakers in Washington started asking questions about whether U.S. tax dollars also were being used to fund Soros projects in the small, conservative-led country of Macedonia.

Rep. Christopher Smith, R-N.J., led a group of House lawmakers in writing to Ambassador Jess Baily -- an Obama appointee -- demanding answers. Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, also expressed concerns about USAID money going to Soros' Open Society Foundations as part of a broader concern that the U.S. Embassy has been taking sides in party politics.

At the very least Soros is in violation of the Logan Act and the USAPATRIOT Act.

I support Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, going to Syria and meeting with President Bashar al-Assad because the congresswoman is a brave person willing to take criticism for challenging U.S. policies that she believes are wrong.

It is important that we have representatives in our government who will go to countries where the United States is either killing citizens directly by U.S. intervention or indirectly by support of militia groups or by sanctions.

We need representatives to sift through what the U.S. government says and what the media reports to find out for themselves the truth, the shades of truth and the untruths.

We need representatives willing to take the heat from both their fellow members of Congress and from the media pundits who will not go to those areas and talk with those directly affected by U.S. actions. We need representatives who will be our eyes and ears to go to places where most citizens cannot go.

If the Democrats are smart, they will support Tulsi!

“This story that we’re doing right now is not to intentionally deceive anyone. We are simply talking about the cost to keep a president safe,” he continued.

“Please stop it with that stupid talking point, that it is a fake news story. If you don’t want to participate in the news stories on this network, then don’t come on and participate. But don’t call them fake because you don’t agree with them. Go on.”

Dennard insisted that “this is a fake news story,” after which Lemon ended the segment altogether. (The Hill)

US Navy: Nuke-Capable Submarine Missiles Tested Successfully Off California Coast

Over the past week, the US Navy has revealed that they carried out four test fires in a matter of three days of Trident II nuclear-capable ICBM missiles off the course of California, insisting that all four launches were a success.

The missiles are submarine launched, and designed to carry up to eight nuclear warheads 4,000 nautical miles. The missiles, which were first deployed in 1989, are called Trident because they are meant to be part of a three-way nuclear capacity, including land, sea, and air nuclear weaponry.

Officials insisted, of course, that the missiles were not armed when they were fired, and were carried out at the usual Pacific Test Range. Ohio-class submarines are capable of firing 24 such missiles each, and officials say the tests are commonly conducted.

US to Send 1,000 Troops to Poland to ‘Deter Russia’

Adding to the ever-growing number of US military deployments into Eastern Europe, the Army announced over the weekend that the US will send some 1,000 US troops and vehicles to Orzysy, a town in northeastern Poland, another deployment done as part of the huge “spearhead” force against Russia.

The Stakes for Trump and All of Us — Paul Craig Roberts

We need to understand, and so does President Trump, that the hoax “war on terror” was used to transform intelligence agencies, such as the NSA and CIA, and criminal investigative agencies, such as the FBI, into Gestapo secret police agencies. Trump is now threatened by these agencies, because he rejects the neoconservative’s agenda of US world hegemony that supports the gigantic military/security annual budget.

Our secret police agencies are busy at work planting “intelligence” among the presstitute media that Trump is compromised by “Russian connections” and is a security threat to the United States. The plan is to make a case in the media, as was done against President Nixon, and to force Trump from office. To openly take on a newly elected president is an act of extraordinary audacity that implies enormous confidence, or else desperation, on the part of the police state agencies.

Police Chief Confirms Fmr UK Prime Minister Raped Dozens of Children and Govt ‘Covered it Up’

In what will likely turn into the largest pedophile bombshell in recent history, Sir Edward Heath, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom has reportedly been accused by the police chief as being a pedophile. His vile crimes against children were allegedly ‘covered up by the establishment.’

More than 30 people have now come forward with claims of sexual abuse by the former leader of the Conservative Party and PM. Police investigators told the Daily Mail that the victims all gave ‘strikingly similar’ accounts of the sexual abuse and none of the individuals were known to each other.

On Sunday, the Daily Mail revealed that the police chief investigating the Heath case said the allegations against him are ‘120 per cent’ genuine.

Why Was the FBI Investigating General Flynn?

There appears to have been no basis for a criminal or intelligence probe. National Security Adviser Michael Flynn was dismissed amid a torrent of mainstream-media reporting and disgraceful government leaks (but I repeat myself). Among the most intriguing was a New York Times report the morning after Flynn’s resignation, explaining that the former three-star Army general and head of the Defense Intelligence Agency was “grilled” by FBI agents “about a phone call he had had with Russia’s ambassador.” No fewer than seven veteran Times reporters contributed to the story, the Gray Lady having dedicated more resources to undermining the Trump administration than the Republican Congress has to advancing Trump’s agenda. Remarkably, none of the able journalists appears to have asked a screamingly obvious question — a question that would have been driving press coverage had an Obama administration operative been in the Bureau’s hot seat. On what basis was the FBI investigating General Flynn?

Weekly Update: Another Email Scandal

Hillary Clinton, The “Insider Threat”

You don’t have to take my word for it that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s sloppy email practices were an egregious breech of national security. An expert in the Department of Defense thought so as well.

Who's Really Behind The Soft-Coup? Obama-Founded Activist Group Offers Anti-Trump Protest "Guide"

"The left is intentionally fighting to remain relevant," remarks Armstrong Economics' Martin Armstrong, adding that "the hatred spewing out of their mouths is really off the wall." Furthermore, Armstrong warns the Obama administration is behind the so-called 'soft coup' under way and as The Post reports, an Obama-tied activist group training tens of thousands of agitators to protest Trump's policies plans to hit Republican lawmakers even harder this week.

Organizing for Action, a group founded by Obama and featured prominently on his new post-presidency website, is distributing a training manual to anti-Trump activists that advises them to bully GOP lawmakers into backing off support for repealing ObamaCare, curbing immigration from high-risk Islamic nations, and building a border wall. As The NY Post details,

In a new Facebook post, OFA calls on activists to mobilize against Republicans from now until Feb. 26, when “representatives are going to be in their home districts.”

Here's the unhinged (and deeply US Deep-State supported) strategy; to get the President so thoroughly disrupted and distracted to the point of barely being able to function, then allow the coming wars against Russia and China to unfold on his watch, before he has the full opportunity to realize the grave danger into which those wars will place our military, then blame him for them, and a for a staggeringly difficult economy, soon to come.

I would strongly suggest that people who care about this country and its future, to not act like this, but to work with President Trump to attempt to resolve some of the critical problems he faces, both domestically and internationally.

Of course, that calls for rational, and logical, adult behaviour; something of which the "unhinged fringe" is pathologically incapable.

Russian Ambassador To UN Dies Suddenly In New York

Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations, Vitaly Churkin, died suddenly at work in New York on Monday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

The ministry gave no details on the circumstances of his death but offered condolences to his relatives and said the diplomat had died one day before his 65th birthday.

“The outstanding Russian diplomat passed away at his work post,” it said.

Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for the U.N. secretary-general’s office, said: “He has been such a regular presence here that I am actually quite stunned. Our thoughts go to his family, to his friends and to his government.”

I would be very interested in knowing what, precisely, caused this man's death.

He was very well-respected by his colleagues at the UN, and it will be interesting to see who Putin appoints as his replacement; he will be a tough act to follow.

Trump’s Defense Chief: We’re Not In Iraq To Seize Anybody’s Oil

“I think all of us here in this room, all of us in America have generally paid for our gas and oil all along and I’m sure that we will continue to do so in the future.”

The U.S. military is not in Iraq “to seize anybody’s oil”, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said, distancing himself from remarks by President Donald Trump at the start of a visit to Iraq on Monday.

Mattis, on his first trip to Iraq as Pentagon chief, is hoping to assess the war effort as U.S.-backed Iraqi forces launch a new push to evict Islamic State militants from their remaining stronghold in the city of Mosul.

But he is likely to face questions about Trump’s remarks and actions, including a temporary ban on travel to the United States and for saying America should have seized Iraq’s oil after toppling Saddam Hussein in 2003.

Trump told CIA staff in January: “We should have kept the oil. But okay. Maybe you’ll have another chance.”

Sec-Def Mattis, please allow me to educate you as to the origins of the US invasion and occupation of Iraq.

This invasion and occupation of Iraq was purely economic, and done to prevent Iraq's oil to be sold for any other currency than the petrodollar.

Iraq war: the dollar versus the Euro

And so, sir, what do we have in Iraq today?!? We have an absolutely destroyed Iraqi infrastructure, coupled with a completely corrupt US-Centric (and dependent) Iraqi government, and its oil sold only in US dollars.

But that was the point of the exercise, was it not?!? It doesn't have anything to do with "seizing the oil"; it has everything to do with Iraqi oil being sold only in US dollars.

You're welcome, sir!!

Donald Trump’s Shift On Yemen Risks Plunging The Country Into Famine

President Donald Trump may be on the brink of sparking a full-blown famine in Yemen ? all because of a subtle shift in messaging that risks effectively cutting off humanitarian relief to the war-torn nation.

For more than a year, former President Barack Obama’s administration urged a coalition led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates not to attack or seize the critical port of Hodeidah on Yemen’s west coast. The bulk of humanitarian supplies that enter Yemen flow through Hodeidah, and attacking the port, which is controlled by the Houthi rebels, would likely put it out of commission, the Obama administration warned.

But now the coalition, allied with the nominal Yemeni government of President Abdu Rabbu Mansour Hadi, has been redirecting humanitarian and commercial ships carrying food away from the Hodeidah port, relief workers told The Huffington Post. That redirection is itself a major blow to relief efforts. But it could also signal an attack is imminent.

"President Donald Trump may be on the brink of sparking a full-blown famine in Yemen ....."

MAY BE?!? Has whoever wrote this piece of codswallop not been paying attention for the last couple of years, when President Obama signed off on assisting the Saudi assault against Yemen by selling them bombs, and providing guidance for aerial bombing assaults?!?

This is what life looks like for Yemeni children these days:

Images: wounded and murdered children, from Saudi aerial bombing raids

Starvation has been the norm, particularly for Yemeni children, because food aid has been largely closed off by the Saudis at port cities for nearly the last two years. These Yemeni kids now look like this:

Images: starving Yemeni children, 2016

Mr. President, the Saudis have been committing war crimes with impunity every since they attacked the country of Yemen when the Houthi rebels displaced the Al-Hadi government nearly two years ago. The targeting of schools; hospitals; and open air markets, coupled with the assassination of non-combatants, all constitute war crimes, sir.

And yet I see that earlier this month, you signed off on more weapons for both Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain, one of the most brutal, tone-deaf and democracy-deprived oppressors of its Shiite majority in the Middle East..

President Trump approves more weapons for Saudi Arabia and Bahrain

Sir, upon this further enabling of the Saudi slaughter in Yemen, which may well be called genocide, and the enabling the Al-Khalifa's monarchy's monstrous repression of its own people, you have demonstrated, perfectly clearly, that you are quite comfortable in the United States being complicit in war crimes, and as a Christian Activist Pacifist, I am a very unhappy witness to this reality.

To be brutally honest, I had expected much better of you, because someone in your administration, with their head on straight, should have counseled you by now that the only solution possible in Yemen at this point has to be political, rather than military.

Concerns Grow About A Nuclear "Incident" In Europe After Spike In Radioactive Iodine Levels

Concerns about a potential, and so far unsubstantiated, nuclear "incident", reportedly in the vicinity of the Arctic circle, spread in the past week after trace amounts of radioactive Iodine-131 of unknown origin were detected in January over large areas in Europe according to a report by the Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety, the French national public expert in nuclear and radiological risks. Since the isotope has a half-life of only eight days, the detection is an indication of a rather recent release. As the Barents Observer adds, "where the radioactivity is coming from is still a mystery."

The Mark Zuckerberg Manifesto Is a Blueprint for Destroying Journalism

It’s not that Mark Zuckerberg set out to dismantle the news business when he founded Facebook 13 years ago. Yet news organizations are perhaps the biggest casualty of the world Zuckerberg built.

There’s reason to believe things are going to get worse.

A sprawling new manifesto by Zuckerberg, published to Facebook on Thursday, should set off new alarm bells for journalists, and heighten news organizations’ sense of urgency about how they—and their industry—can survive in a Facebook-dominated world.

Facebook’s existing threat to journalism is well established. It is, at its core, about the flow of the advertising dollars that news organizations once counted on. In this way, Facebook’s role is a continuation of what began in 1995, when Craigslist was founded. Its founder, Craig Newmark, didn’t actively aim to decimate newspapers, but Craigslist still eviscerated a crucial revenue stream for print when people stopped buying newspaper classifieds ads.

This is why the independent media needs to collaborate, and work together, if it doesn't want to be swallowed up by the behemoth here.

Anything not to Mr.l Zukerberg's liking - no matter how real and documentable an issue may be - will be completely suppressed by Facebook.

Berkeley event was successful despite efforts against it

After I was invited by the Social Justice Committee of the Berkeley Fellowship of Unitarian Universalists (BFUU) to give a public presentation, extremist pro-Israel activists went to work to get the event canceled. They put up blog posts and even a Craigslist advertisement attacking me, exaggerating inaccurate claims about me by the ADL and, especially, the widely refuted JVP-US Campaign dossier on me.

This has become standard practice for Israel partisans who wish to prevent audiences from hearing my presentation.

A few individuals within the BFUU then took up the JVP-USC false claims, trying to get the event shut down before anyone had the chance to hear me directly. This effort threatened to succeed, but ultimately failed when members committed to social justice and free speech refused to cave in.

TRUMP GETS READY TO PICK JOHN BOLTON AS ADVISOR

White House spokesman Sean Spicer told reporters that Trump will speak to former US ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton, acting national security adviser Gen. Keith Kellogg, West Point Superintendent Lt. Gen. Robert Caslen, Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, who directs the Army Capabilities Integration Center, and “potentially more” candidates. Those meetings will take place Sunday, Spicer said.

Two other candidates, former Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal and former CIA Director David Petraeus, are no longer in the mix, sources told CNN Friday night. The front-runner for the post, Vice Adm. Bob Harward, dropped out of consideration apparently over concerns that he could not bring his own staff to the National Security Council.
For my take on Kellogg, read this, and Bolton here.

The Bolton selection is being pushed by Ted Cruz.

Holy crud, President Trump, please tell me that it's NOT, please going to be Bolton!!

This man never met a war he didn't embrace whole-heartedly, and any attack against Iran will nearly automatically guarantee war with Russia.

And right now, and please, heaven someone tell President Trump this, the US military doesn't have the weaponry; the troop strength; the money; or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome to a war with Russia.

NORTH KOREA'S REGIME IN JEOPARDY AFTER CHINA BANS ALL COAL IMPORTS

North Korea just lost a very big ally.

On Saturday, China said that it was suspending all imports of coal from North Korea as part of its effort to implement United Nations Security Council sanctions aimed at stopping the country’s nuclear weapons and ballistic-missile program. The ban, according to a statement posted on the website of the Chinese Commerce Ministry, takes effect on today and will last until the end of the year. While China will hardly suffer material adverse impacts, Chinese trade - and aid - have long been a vital economic crutch for North Korea, and the decision strips North Korea of one of its most important sources of foreign currency.

The timing of this economic blow to North Korea is a very clear message to the Trump administration; now is the time to get China, North and South Korea, and the US to the negotiations table to cobble together a peace deal which will guarantee trade, and freedom of movement for North Korea, in exchange for North Korea's ending its nuclear weapons development program forever.

When the family did just that, the Commissioner balked. He acknowledged that the family had complied with the relevant provisions. And he acknowledged that the purpose of the relevant provisions was to lower taxes. But he reasoned that the effect of these transactions was to evade the contribution limits on Roth IRAs and applied the “substanceover-form doctrine,” Appellee’s Br. 41, to recharacterize the transactions as dividends from Summa Holdings to the Benensons followed by excess Roth IRA contributions. The Tax Court upheld the Commissioner’s determination [T.C. Memo. 2015-119].

THE CIA VS. THE PRESIDENCY: THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME

These days, President Trump is in his own war against the CIA and other parts of the intelligence community (IC).

In his case, he has overtly criticized the IC and called them disseminators of fake news and lies. He claims he’s putting an end to foreign wars of conquest. He’s already canceled a major Globalist trade treaty, the TPP.

But the IC believes it owns the Presidency and sets his agenda.

This is not a recent assumption. It goes all the way back to the early days of the CIA; Eisenhower, Kennedy.

In 2016, the IC leadership decided Trump would be a threat to their power, so they leaked/invented information about the Russians influencing the election on behalf of Trump. This effort was aimed at corroding his right to claim that he was the legitimate president.

The war continues.

The IC doesn’t want presidents with independent ideas.

They’re the bosses, and they intend to keep it that way.

We The People cannot give the IC the satisfaction of destroying this President; and the best, most peaceful way in which to do this is to publicly state that we know what is going on, and will encourage President Trump to fire every last one of them, replacing these people who believe they are above the law with people who understand that the Constitution and Bill of Rights are the original "Contract with America".

LIES YOUR TEACHER TAUGHT YOU: Who wrote Diary of Anne Frank?

A New York Court awarded $50,000 to an American novelist Meyer Levin, to be paid By Otto Frank the father of Anne Frank as an honorarium for Levin's novel "Diary of a Young Girl" also known as "Diary of Anne Frank". Mr. Otto Frank, had promised to pay to a Jewish novelist Meyer Levin not less than $50,000 because he had used the literary creation of author Levin in toto, and represented it to his publisher and the public as his late daughter’s original work.

Otto Frank later decided on a Broadway production of the same novel but did not pay Meyer Levin for use of his novel for Broadway production whcih was against the terms of contract. hence Meyer Levin sued Otto Frank for his writings, and the New York Court Jury awarded Meyer Levin $50,000, for his 'intellectual work'.

Household Debt Climbs to $12.58 Trillion, Just Shy of Its 2008 Peak

Total household debt climbed by $226 billion in the fourth quarter of 2016, rising to $12.58 trillion, according to a report from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

The $12.58 trillion in household debt today is only 0.8 percent shy of its 2008 peak at $12.68 trillion, when the United States was in a recession. The increase in debt in the fourth quarter of 2016 is the largest quarterly increase since the last quarter of 2013.

Most of the increase was due to credit card debt, followed by student loans. According to the report, credit card balances increased by 4.3 percent since the previous quarter, and student loan balances increased by 2.4 percent.

In the last quarter, credit card balances increased to $779 billion overall, while student loan debt balances rose to $1.31 trillion. The report also finds that 11.2 percent of student loan debt was 90 or more days delinquent or in default.

Please try to get your credit card debt as much under control as humanly possible.

And I say that because, if there is any rise in the Federal Reserve interest rate, that will impact all credit card debt by pushing your interest rate higher.

REX TILLERSON PURGES REMNANTS OF “SHADOW GOVT” AT STATE DEPARTMENT

According to pundits, politicians, and even the executive branch itself, the Trump administration is at war with the so-called “Deep State.” Though the Deep State – sometimes also called the Shadow government – is hard to define, it is essentially the part of the political establishment that are permanent power factions operating within Washington. These factions guide policy according to a unified agenda regardless of who is in office, often exercising their power secretively which frees them of any sort of accountability.

Great start, bravo!!

‘Globalism’ Is the Victory of Western Ideals

President Donald Trump does not like “globalism.” Last April in the first major foreign policy address of his campaign, he said, “We will no longer surrender this country or its people to the false song of globalism.” He Tweeted in June that Americans face a “choice between Americanism and [Hillary Clinton’s] corrupt globalism.” Breitbart, a mouthpiece for Trumpism, ran a piece last month touting “Trump’s nationalist vision” against the “Gospel of Globalism.” And Robert Merry, a contributing editor at the National Interest, agreed, characterizing the 2016 election as a contest between nationalism and globalism.
