Bruins stun NHL, trade Tyler Seguin to Dallas

The Boston Bruins made a potentially franchise altering move Thursday, dealing what once was one of the more promising young stars in the game, Tyler Seguin, along with Rich Peverley and Ryan Button to Dallas in exchange for forwards Loui Eriksson, Reilly Smith, Matt Fraser and Joe Morrow.

Eriksson is the coveted piece for the B’s as the 27-year-old posted 12 goals and 17 assists in the 2013 lockout-shortened season for the Stars. He has three years remaining on his current contract, worth $25.5 million.

Seguin’s deal is for considerably longer as 2013 will be the first year of a six-year deal that will dish out $5.75 million per season. It was just last September that Seguin believed he would enter the prime of his career as a member of the Bruins.

“Happy to be apart of the Boston Bruins organization for another 7 years. Thanks for the support and everyone involved,” Seguin tweeted at the time.

Seguin had just one goal in 22 playoff games in the B’s run to the Stanley Cup Final this year. CSNNE.com reported Thursday that Seguin was “out late” during the Bruins road trip to Toronto for playoff games and that he showed up to Air Canada Centre “wearing the same clothes for three straight days.”

Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli discussed Seguin’s supposed immaturity this past weekend and flat-out said he was committed to trading the young forward if he didn’t change his ways.
